Barnes & Noble Manchester, NH

We had so much fun talking to the people from Katie's home state. (Thanks so much to all the friends, family, former teachers and people we'd never met for coming out.) When Nathan from Barnes & Noble sent us these photos he said, "The crowd was larger than my iPhone could handle. Hence the fish eye shot." We'll take that as a win!

The Fastest Way to Improve Test Scores Has Nothing to Do With the Test

Just in time for standardized testing, Edutopia published our second article for them. Writing these is so much fun!

The Straight-A Conspiracy is Coming to Silicon Valley!

Super excited to be coming to the Bay Area to speak at our third Barnes & Noble. Only a thousand or so more to go!

Because we're all about personalizing education...and everything else, this talk is going to be geared specifically towards what Silicon Valley has to contribute to transforming education. Hint: it's probably not what you expect.

After thousands of hours working with hundreds of students from every background, Hunter Maats and Katie O’Brien are sure that America’s most innovative region holds the secret to changing the lives of millions of students. That's right: Silicon Valley has what it takes to fix America’s schools. However, the key is not getting Silicon Valley’s technology into our students’ hands; it’s getting Silicon Valley’s culture into their heads. Come hear how simply telling students the truth about their brains is all it takes to get every kid to treat his or her education like the next big startup.

Katie and Hunter are the authors of The Straight-A Conspiracy: Your Secret Guide to Ending The Stress of School and Totally Ruling the World synthesizes the latest research in neuroscience, psychology, and education in a fun, approachable, cartoon-filled book written to transform the most disgruntled, school-hating teenager into an impassioned, curious entrepreneur. Please join the authors for a talk and signing at the Barnes & Noble at the Eastridge Mall. February 18th at 7pm. FREE.
